A narrator whose credibility has been compromised. Sometimes the narrator’s unreliability is immediately evident. For example, when a narrator makes a plainly false or delusional claim or admits to being mentally ill. Some writers use the device in a more dramatic way to delay the revelation until the end. Such twist endings can force readers to reconsider their opinion and experience of the story.
